Assemblymember Holly Mitchell to Chair Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services

December 16, 2010

Sacramento – Assemblymember Holly J. Mitchell (D-Los Angeles) was appointed as the new chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services by Speaker John Perez of the California State Assembly.

The Subcommittee reviews the Governor's budget proposals for a range of healthcare services such as CalWORKS, In-Home Supportive Services, Medi-Cal, Healthy Families and Foster Care and has broad discussions of budget alternatives and recommendations. Health and Human Services is the second largest area of state general fund expenditures and has been the battleground of the legislature on how to best balance the budget.

I asked for it, I got it, and I'm ready for it, said the freshman Assemblymember who was sworn into her first term to represent the 47th Assembly District in the California State Legislature on December 6th.

In addition to the Budget committee, Speaker Perez also appointed Mitchell to the Appropriations, Health, Public Safety and Accountability and Administrative Review Committees. My committee assignments place me exactly where my constituents need me to be, noted Assemblymember Mitchell. I welcome the opportunity to work with my colleagues in the Assembly for a better California.

Assemblymember Mitchell represents the Los Angeles communities of Culver City, West Los Angeles, Westwood, Cheviot Hills, Leimert Park, Baldwin Hills, Windsor-Hills, Ladera Heights, the Crenshaw District, Little Ethiopia and portions of Korea Town and South Los Angeles.
