Assemblymember Holly Mitchell Offers Best Wishes for Cinco de Mayo

May 05, 2011

Assemblymember Holly Mitchell extends warm wishes for the celebration of Cinco de Mayo.

Today commemorates the 149th anniversary of the victory of Mexico over French invaders on Mexican soil, said Assemblywoman Mitchell, whose Los Angeles-based district includes many residents of Mexican descent. Cinco de Mayo has become very much a day on which Americans celebrate Mexican and Mexican-American culture. This is a tradition we should encourage – and enjoy!

Californians have special cause to honor this historical date, because the Golden State's heritage owes so much to the intertwined histories of Mexico and the United States.
