Mitchell, center, is joined by three rising political stars as they join her for the videorecording of a message advancing an upcoming Beverly Hills community forum on sex trafficking. Joining Mitchell, from left, are Tricia Robbins Kasson of Sherman Oaks; Tracie Stafford of Elk Grove; and Gertrude Smith of Seaside. The three women spent part of the day shadowing Mitchell, D-Los Angles, as members of the 2017 class of a program called Emerge California, a program to help train women for a future in politics.

First six of seven reform measures pass initial policy tests

SACRAMENTO – Supporters of sweeping reforms of how California’s criminal justice system treats youths and young adults won another round today as the sixth measure in a seven-bill package that has passed its initial policy review.

In addition, a companion measure that had been referred to a second policy committee for review won approval for the second time in as many weeks.
