First six of seven reform measures pass initial policy tests

SACRAMENTO – Supporters of sweeping reforms of how California’s criminal justice system treats youths and young adults won another round today as the sixth measure in a seven-bill package that has passed its initial policy review.

In addition, a companion measure that had been referred to a second policy committee for review won approval for the second time in as many weeks.

On Monday, April 3, 2017, we welcome the GALA girls and chaperones to join in our celebration of California Women and Girls in STEM week.  With the adoption of the Senate and Assembly Resolutions, the State of California encourages all citizens and community organizations to support the observance of California Women and Girls in STEM Week by encouraging and celebrating women in the STEM fields. The Assembly declares April 2, 2017 to April 8, 2017, inclusive, as Women and Girls in STEM week.

First five measures pass initial policy tests

SACRAMENTO – Nine days after introducing a comprehensive bill package to reform California’s criminal justice system for juveniles and young adults, five of the measures have passed their initial policy tests.

The latest action came today as the Senate Public Safety Committee approved bills to eliminate court fees on those found innocent and to keep records sealed on those not convicted of a crime.

“Sen. Mitchell has displayed an unparalleled commitment to diversity, justice and the community,” Camille Townsend said. “The organization unanimously agrees that Sen. Mitchell embodies the Willie L. Brown, Jr. Advocacy Award.
