Kamlager is Mitchell's district director in her Los Angeles office and was recently elected president of the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees, the second African-American woman elected as president in the 77-year history of the board.

Honor comes with leadership on national issues  

SACRAMENTO – The National Conference of State Legislatures on Sunday elected Sen. Holly J. Mitchell to its national Executive Committee, group officials confirmed today.

Mitchell, chair of the powerful Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, has been actively involved in NCSL for more than 25 years, first at the staff level on welfare reform workgroups then later as an elected lawmaker.

Mitchell on Saturday presented free laptops and scooters to 150 at-risk children during a carnival that keyed on fun – but really was part of her years-long effort to engage children to stay mentally, physically and nutritionally active.
