Senator Mitchell mourns death of Marguerite LaMotte
"The passing of Marguerite Poindexter LaMotte takes from our community and our schools a voice of advocacy which, for ten years, spoke passionately to the needs of students in the inner city and persuasively for the educational success of all our children.
“Having represented South L.A. for a decade on the Board of Education, she leaves a void at Los Angeles Unified which will be difficult – and yet critical – to fill. Her work must go on.
Marguerite was one of the very few women holding local office in Los Angeles and among the African American community’s best known leaders. She died as she lived, fully engaged in the struggle to make learning our society’s number one priority.
“Marguerite LaMotte’s leadership and caring will be deeply missed.”
