A longtime activist and supporter of children's rights, Sen. Holly J. Mitchell, D-Los Angeles, regularly meets with like-minded supporters to share stories, give each other strength and inspire others. During a recent speech, Mitchell talked to the Alliance for Children’s Rights, a direct services organization based in Los Angeles that provides free legal services and advocacy to ensure that impoverished, abused and neglected children are protected and have a permanent family with the support they need to thrive. The event was co-sponsored by the California Alliance of Caregivers, which represents the voices of relative and non-relative caregivers to promote the well-being of children in foster care. Mitchell spoke about the importance of foster parents, relatives and extended family members to a vibrant and functioning child welfare system. (All photos by Alan Moore, Senate Fellow).
