April 2022 Newsletter

A Note from Sen. Bob Archuleta

Dear Neighbor,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits as we make our way through spring. It has been a productive last couple of months as my fellow State Senators and I have continued working to help families safely navigate the state’s reopening.

My District office team and I have been busy alongside our regional partners. From laptop giveaways and ribbon cutting ceremonies, to drive thru vaccine clinics and food banks in underserved regions: we are out there and doing our best to serve our communities.

My Capitol office team and I have been busy working to deliver more supportive resources and budget wins for our district. From increased funding to help our military veterans troubleshoot or access their benefits, to funding for upgrades to the public spaces we have cherished in our communities for generations: wherever I can, I will advocate for our communities.

Please continue to check the County of Los Angeles Public Health website for the latest Covid information and updated guidance, as well as vaccine administrating locations, by visiting http://www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/

As always, I stand ready to help you resolve any issues you may have with any state agencies, and encourage you to please reach out to either my Capitol or District offices for assistance at (562) 406-1001 or visit https://sd32.senate.ca.gov/.

God bless,

Senator Bob Archuleta

Capitol Office Updates & News

Budget Wins for Public Health, Veterans, and Public Safety, as Well as Seven Bills Sent to the Governor’s Desk

I shared with you previously how privileged I am to have worked with my colleagues to deliver something for everyone in our community. Wins for projects ranging from $1.1 million in funding for the La Habra Heights Fire Department to upgrade their equipment and facilities, to state budget funding for repair work at Smith Park Aquatic Center in Pico Rivera and Parnell Park in Whittier. The full text of my press releases and listing of budget wins for our district is available on my website at https://sd32.senate.ca.gov/news/press-releases

Seven Bills Sent to the Governor’s Desk in 2021

This year, I sent seven bills to the Governor’s desk for his signature, in addition to more budget wins for the district, specifically:

  • $1,000,000 in funding for Smith Park Aquatic Center in Pico Rivera for emergency repairs
  • $5.019,000 in funding for Parnell Park in Whittier for improvements and renovations to the park’s facilities
  • $1,075,000 in funding for the La Habra Heights Fire Department for a new fire engine and building upgrades

Upcoming Bills for 2022:

I am pleased to share with you a couple upcoming bills I am currently working on that are making their way through the California State Senate:

SB 1076 – will protect more children against lead poisoning by harmonizing state and federal training and certification requirements for lead safe work practices related to work that can disturb lead paint.

SB 1357 - will provide a full property tax exemption for disabled veteran homeowners to help prevent homelessness.

SB 1323 – will help protect homeowners going through a foreclosure by requiring the seizing bank to hire a realtor to sell the home as oppose to putting the home up for auction.

I am committed to improving the quality of life and public safety of all the communities in my district. I am working on bills that deliver something for everyone: public safety for children, housing support for our military veterans, and homeowner protections.

As our communities strive to safely reopen and make the long term planning that is necessary to operate efficiently, I will be there to support them in any way possible. I will be their partner and advocate by continuing to work on common sense legislation. Moreover, I will continue to deliver budget wins to support the immediate and long term funding that our communities rightfully deserve.

Hydrogen Day at the Capitol

This month, we held the largest outreach and public display of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies at the State Capitol. The event highlighted the economic value and capabilities of hydrogen fuel vehicles, ranging from freight trucks to personal vehicles, as part of California’s plans to reduce harmful and polluting emissions on our highways, while also creating thousands of jobs in the industries that support and manufacture these vehicles. The general public, manufacturers, state and local agencies all participated, and learned about the role of hydrogen and fuel cell technology in California’s future. As chair of the Senate Select Committee on Hydrogen Energy, I remain committed to progressing the hydrogen industry in moving us closer to our clean energy goals.

To watch footage of the last two meetings of the Senate Select Committee on Hydrogen Energy, please visit the CA State Senate’s website at https://www.senate.ca.gov/media-archive/default?title=hydrogen&startdate=&enddate=

Pico Rivera Station Captain Jodi Hutak Recognized as Woman of the Year for Senate District 32

In celebration of International Women’s Day, I recognized Pico Rivera Sheriff’s Station Captain Jodi Hutak as Woman of the Year for Senate District 32. Her long record of public service to Los Angeles County and its residents exemplifies leadership, and is a model of professionalism we should all strive to emulate.

Captain Hutak, a 22-year Sheriff’s Department veteran, has led the station with a wealth of knowledge, experience and community familiarity. These traits have been invaluable during the recent public health crisis, making her a key player in our region’s response.

She directed her station in many of the city’s public safety programs, such as food and personal protective equipment distribution events, as well as COVID-19 testing and vaccine programs.

2022 Women of Achievement for the 32nd District

As part of Women’s History Month, I hosted the 2022 Women of Achievement of the 32nd Senate District event on Saturday, March 26, 2022 in Whittier to celebrate the accomplishments of 11 women who have contributed to the well-being of their respective communities within the district.

Their outstanding hard work and dedication to the district during the public health crisis was essential to public safety, and made a lasting impact wherever they led. Our district is fortunate to call home to a great number of women who make considerable contributions to their families, professions and individual communities, and it was truly an honor to recognize their exemplary leadership.
