Destination Crenshaw Broke Ground in Leimert Park Celebrating the Future of Black History and Community in the South L.A.

At the intersection of Crenshaw and Leimert, hundreds gathered to honor the history of Crenshaw Boulevard and Leimert Park and to celebrate the groundbreaking of Destination Park and its centerpiece; Sankofa Park.

The 1.3-mile outdoor museum will feature small parks and public art celebrating the history and culture of Black Los Angeles. Backed by Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Destination Crenshaw will stand as a cultural hub for years to come and a beautiful visual from Metro’s future Crenshaw Line.


The celebratory event held Saturday, February 23, featured performances by Terrace Martin, Alex Isley, LA Commons and Lula Washington Dance Theater. Interactive activations included Supervsn Studios x Destination Crenshaw Capsule, Sankofa Supermall, Academix Beat Lab and KAOS Network. To top it off, food from Harold & Belles mobile food truck and Not Your Mama’s Kitchen and more.


Among the faces in the crowds, Representative Karen Bass, Senator Steven Bradford, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Senator Holly Mitchell with a special appearance from the multi-talented writer, director and actor, Issa Rae.
