Statement: Senator Kamlager's Reacts to the Verdict Finding Ahmaud Arbery's Murderers Guilty

SACRAMENTO – State Senator Sydney K. Kamlager issued the following statement on conviction of the three men who murdered Ahmaud Arbery:

"While a step in the right direction, the conviction of Ahmaud Arbery's murderers was made possible because of a video viewed by millions. It seems like justice only comes for Black, Brown, or immigrant bodies when exposure goes viral. Where is the faith in our right to freely exist?

"When justice feels like a surprise, it is a stark reminder of how sinister our criminal legal system is, how draconian is its design, and why we must break it. The arc of the moral universe is long, but because of the work of advocates and reformers, it is bending towards justice."
