Sept. 14, 2017: Affiliate of nation’s largest mental-health group names Sen. Holly J. Mitchell lawmaker of the year
SACRAMENTO – The California chapter of a nationwide mental-health group has named Sen. Holly J. Mitchell its Legislator of the Year.
The award by the National Alliance on Mental Illness California, an affiliate of the country’s largest mental health advocacy organization dedicated to bettering the lives of those living with mental illness, took place during the group’s Statewide Annual Conference in Newport Beach.
“Sen. Mitchell has shown leadership in making mental health policy a priority,” said Jessica Cruz, executive director NAMI California. “The senator has tackled tough conversations around mental health, and championed legislation not only reducing stigma surrounding mental illness but also providing access to health care for those that need it most.
“In short, she is a champion for all Californians and has been an amazing partner for NAMI California in making mental health policy a priority.”
