Culver City open house becomes a forum for budget talks

While the weather was breezy outside, the temperature soared inside Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell's Culver City district office on Feb. 24, as more than 150 constituents crowded in to glimpse the new space, air concerns and receive an update on California's budget crisis.

With only weeks left to develop a budget that balances the state's $25 billion deficit for 2011-12 — $8 billion of which is from the current fiscal year — Mitchell said legislators are looking at ways to cut spending and increase revenue.
