SACRAMENTO (April 25, 2018) -- Below is an edited transcript of remarks Sen. Holly J. Mitchell made during a Capitol rally today in support of Denim Day 2018.

"This is a fight we have to carry every single day in every workplace every school everywhere we are.

"Violence against women is at a pandemic level across this county and our culture. All of us have a role to play, be as a legislator, educator, parent or employer. It’s got to stop and we all have a collective responsibility to talk about women and girls in our society.

"We’re at a critical point in our cultural experience. Where women and girls are standing up and declaring enough is enough.

"So while denim day we recognize an inappropriate court ruling, please understand that with regards to violence against women (and) sexual assault against women, women are standing up, locking arms, saying enough is enough, and we’re not going to take it anymore.

"We expect everyone across the board to fundamentally understand we’ve said enough, and we’re going to fight, continue to amplify this issue across the board to make sure there are policies in place, our work place is safe.

"Whether we choose to wear our denim tight or otherwise, we have full control over our bodies."
