Senator Archuleta Secures $1M for Animal Shelter Expansion and K9 Training Center in City of La Puente

La Puente, CA – Senator Bob Archuleta (D-Pico Rivera) has secured $1 million in state funds to complete the long-awaited expansion of an animal shelter and to establish a new K9 training center in the 30th Senate District.

“This critical investment will provide the city with modernized shelter facilities to improve animal care and adoption services, while also creating a specialized training center for service and law enforcement K9s that will strengthen community safety,” Senator Bob Archuleta said.

This funding represents an important milestone for the City of La Puente. The expanded shelter and new K9 training center, will not only improve animal welfare but also invest in public safety and valuable community services.

The expanded shelter will increase capacity and improve conditions for rescued animals, ensuring they receive proper care and a greater chance at adoption. The K9 training center will provide local law enforcement and service programs with a dedicated space to prepare K9s for duty, helping them better serve and protect the community.

“Senator Bob Archuleta was instrumental in securing this funding,” La Puente City Mayor Valerie Munoz said. “We are grateful for the leadership and support that made this possible for La Puente residents, families, and animal lovers.”

“I’m honored to support the City of La Puente’s animal shelter expansion and the establishment of a K9 training center, added Archuleta. This $1 million investment not only ensures our animals receive better care, but also strengthens public safety by giving our law enforcement and service dogs the training facilities they deserve. I’m proud that our state budget reflects real, meaningful support for communities across California.”

The City anticipates beginning work on the project immediately, with construction and training operations expected to launch in 2026.
